Making a Difference in the community

R U Ready 4 BIZness hosted a simulation called
“R U an Innovator? Come and Prove It!” in Detroit, Michigan.

Fifty students aged 10-18 from the Metropolitan Detroit area participated in this event. Students developed ideas for apps, inventions and handling issues CEO’s face everyday in business. Students worked in teams to develop their concepts and five minute pitches to local entrepreneurs “Shark Tank” style. The best team received one-on-one coaching with the
R U Ready 4 BIZness founder, Laketa Dumas, to prepare for the state’s Young Innovator competition hosted by Prima Civitas. As a result of the simulation, three high school students from Detroit Public Schools formed their technology company and developed an app. Denate White, Damicone Crossland and Carlton Mitchell created Top Athlete, a mobile sport apps that provides stats and player information. Their idea won second place. They were awarded $750 from Prima Civitas and granted assistance in bringing their app to the market. These students will be competing in the International Sage Business Competition at Xavier University hosted by Curtis Deberg, Sage founder.
